Fred Vernon, son of John and Rufazine (Clodfelter) Evans was born at Lexington, NC on Apr. 16, 1878 and died at his home 547 E. Wichita, Russell, KS at 8:22 p.m. June 13, 1956. Age 78 years, 1 month and 28 days.
Mr. Evans came to Russell in 1888 and has made his home here since that time. He was united in marriage to Mae Nichols at Pleasant Hill, MO, May 14, 1902. After their marriage, he engaged in business here in Russell for the past 50 years. He was always active in civic and social activities of this community until about 4 years ago when his health began failing. He was a long time member of the Russell Fire Dept. and a member of the First Congregational Church of Russell.
To treasure his memory are his wife: Mrs. Mae Evans, Russell; one son, Dale Evans, Boulder, CO; and a daughter, Mrs. Mary (Evans) Grant, Palm Springs, CA. Two granchildren, Kathleen and Michael and other relatives and friends.
