BIOGRAPHY
Born in West Shefford [Bromont], Quebec, Homer immigrated with his family in 1875 and became naturalized in 1880.
After parents divorce, he, along with his mother, sister Flora, and brothers Asahel and Arthur moved down to Randolph where they opened The BELL BROTHERS STORE, with yard goods, "ready made", shoes and hats about 1894. By 1900 Asahel moved to Chicago, and by 1911 Arthur opened a 2nd Bell Brothers store in Gardiner ME but died suddenly in 1919.
Nephews Arthur and Earnest Austin helped in the store when they returned from the army in 1919. Son Bennett went in before school to start the furnace and worked there afer school in his youth and full time after college. After Clara's long illness and the Great Depression, their house and store had to be auctioned off in 1933 to pay doctors. He and Bennett went to Rutland with $5 and sold Life Insurance door to door. Bennett paid for their room and board doing household chores. Daughter Anne was a teacher in Randolph, married to a principal Bob Noble and had young sons, Austin and Gilbert.
