She succumbed after a determined two year fight against cancer. She was born Nov. 5, 1928 in New York City, the daughter of Edwin G. Lauder Jr. and Ethel Albee Vigouroux. She attended Palm Beach Day School, Ashley Hall in Charleston, SC, and graduated from Hollins College in Roanoke, VA with a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion. She was married to Lt. Charles T. Baker at the Old Post Chapel at Ft. Sill, OK in 1950 and accompanied him on assignment to southern Germany where she gave birth to two of her three children at the 98th Army Hospital in Munich. After returning to the U.S. the family settled in West Hartford in 1954 where she gave birth to her third child and remained there until 1980 when they moved to Stonington.
