HEYBURN - Carolee Moncur, 74, of Heyburn, Idaho, passed away, Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Countryside Care and Rehabilitation in Rupert, of respiratory conditions. In November 2012, she suffered an accident that left her a quadriplegic.

Carolee Moncur was born in Rupert, Idaho, on August 2, 1940, the daughter of Charles Marion Moncur and Ida Betsy (Betty) Moncur.

Carolee determined to excel and do the best that could be done in anything she undertook. She became an excellent student and an inquisitive learner. Moreover, she made friends easily with young and old alike. Carolee dearly loved her Grandpa Charles and Grandma Laura Moncur and this relationship built the desire in her to do copious amounts of genealogy later in life.

Carolee attended Heyburn Elementary, Heyburn High School, then upon it's completion, graduated from Minico High School in 1958. After graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree from BYU, Carolee was trained as a physical therapist in Los Angeles at UCLA medical center. She then worked for a period of time at Shriner's Crippled Children's hospital in Salt Lake City.

Carolee then received her master's degree at BYU and taught there for a time before transferring to the College of Health Science and the fledgling Physical Therapy department at the University of Utah. She was an instructor of anatomy, physiology, and sometimes neurology, and supervised student's clinical experiences.

She then received her Ph.D. from the University of Utah and continued to teach and train physical therapists for many years. During her tenure she served as the Department Chairperson of the Physical Therapy Department for many years and as the Interim Dean of the College of Health.

In addition, Carolee had a clinical practice with several of her associates for many years in which those suffering from arthritis, in particular, received much needed relief from this ailment. She served as President of the National Arthritis Foundation and was a distinguished board member.

Carolee retired in 2004 to Heyburn, Idaho, but after a few years she missed the university experience and returned to SLC to manage the anatomy lab at the physical therapy department.

In the interim between semesters she would come to Heyburn and it was there where she had her accident. She suffered this terrible ordeal as well as the best of us and better than most. Even though greatly distressed in this affliction she kept her human dignity and personal pride right up to the end. Carolee continued to be an example to all who visited or aided her in her most difficult hours.

Carolee was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Ward and Stake Relief Society presidents as well as a Sunday School teacher to the youth. In these assignments she touched for good the lives of many women and youth.

Carolee was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Brian Moncur.

She is survived by a sister, Connie (Don) Barrow; and a brother, Stan (Marilyn) Moncur; as well as a sister-in-law, Susan Moncur; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her pets, Ian and Mack.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the Minidoka Home Health and the wonderful aides who came to help at Carolee's home and to the wonderful staff and aides at Countryside in Rupert.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Heyburn LDS 1st and 2nd Ward Church, 530 Villa Dr., in Heyburn. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
