After the war, he lived in Maryland and Washington DC. He married Savannah C. Yeiser, six years his senior, after 1880 and fathered Goldie M. (b. 08/??/83). On August 13, 1913, he entered the soldiers' home in Hampton, Virginia, left October 19, 1918, reentered May 27, 1920, and left again April 15, 1921.
