Pvt. William Carter of Fannin County, Texas joined McCord's Frontier Regiment, Cavalry from 1862-1865 when he was honorably discharged at Uvalde, Texas in 1865.
He was the son of William Carter from Missouri and his mother was Becky Cox, but her origins were unknown. Pvt. Carter was born in Fannin County, Texas on December 22, 1844. His wife, Mary, maiden name Keene, filed for widow's pension on August 14, 1930 after he died on March 23, 1913. He is buried Calvary Cemetery, in the City of Douglas, in Cochise County in Plot 4, Row 178, Section G.
After the war, he and his wife removed from Texas to Arizona where he lived in the City of Douglas. He was a rancher by occupation.
