Valentyne (Val) Edgeworth Camlin died on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the Village at Summerville Presbyterian Community of South Carolina at the age of 94.

Mrs. Camlin was born in Pageland, SC on Feb. 1, 1914 to William Thomas and Eva Burch Edgeworth. She graduated valedictorian from Ruby High School and also from Wingate Junior College. She was employed for 21 years by the Georgetown County Board of Education, her last position being assistant to the coordinator of federal programs. Throughout her life she was actively involved in the Presbyterian Church. She was a board member of the Women of the Church of the Synod of South Carolina, serving as chair of Christian Education. She was a long time member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school, was a Circle leader, and served as one of the first three women on the Board of Deacons. She also sang in the choir and continued this activity for some time after retiring to the Presbyterian Home in Summerville in 1994. Mrs. Camlin was also involved in her Georgetown community as a member of the hospital auxiliary and the Willowbank Garden Club. As her father before her, she was a life-long, loyal member of the Democratic Party.

Mrs. Camlin was predeceased by her husband, Luther Smith Camlin and her son, Luther Smith (Chip) Camlin, Jr.

She is survived by a daughter, Sue Camlin Gallis and her husband, Harry of Cornelius, N.C.; three grandsons, Alex Gallis and his wife Sasha, Christopher and Stephen Wilson; one granddaughter, Sara Gallis, and two great granddaughters, Taylor and Savannah Gallis.

A memorial service in celebration of Mrs. Camlin's life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 in the chapel of the Presbyterian Community of Summerville, the Revs. Achim Daffin and Robert Boston officiating. A private family burial will be held in Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston at a later date.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Village at Summerville Presbyterian Community of South Carolina, 201 West 9th North Street, Summerville, S.C. 29483 or the Lutheran Hospice, 3525 Iron Horse Drive, Ladson, SC 29456.
