Shelbyville [IN] News, Saturday, August 20, 1927:
Dies While At Church Meeting; Resident of Manilla Community; Suddenly Stricken With Heart Trouble

Mrs. Amanda Northam, widow of Walter Northam, and prominently known in the Manilla community of Rush and Shelby counties, died suddenly of heart trouble Friday at Fairmount, IN, where she was attending the annual camp meeting of the Wesleyan Methodist church. She had gone to Fairmount last Wednesday and had been in the best of health, her untimely death being a severe shock to the family and many friends.

She was seventy-one years old and had spent most of her life in the vicinity of Manilla. Mr. Northam passed away six years ago. Mrs. Northam had been active in church work of the community and was one of the highly esteemed and loved residents of the section. She had been a member of the Wesleyan Methodist church for many years.

Three sons and five daughters survive. They are Charles and Chester Northam of Arlington and Clarence Northam, of Rush county, Mrs. Fletcher Branson, of Carthage, Mrs. Stella Pitts, of Marion, Mrs. Eugene Macy, Mrs. John Hufferd and Mrs. Everett Hester, all of Rush county.

Funeral services will be held at ten o'clock Tuesday morning in the Wesleyan Methodist church, north of Manilla and near her home. The Rev. Earl Glover will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Carmony Bros. are the undertakers in charge.
