Mrs. Lydia E. Powell,wife of Jackson Powell, died at her home on Monroe Street, last Friday evening at 6:30 o'clock, after an illness of only a few days. The funeral took place at her late residence Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev. C.W. Lee. Mrs. Powell was aged fifty-nine years one month. Before her marriage which occurred Oct. 25, 1851, her name was Lydia E. Thompson, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Thompson, natives of Kentucky. She was universally esteemed as a Christian woman and was a member of the Methodist church for twenty years previous to her death. Of the eight children born to her and her husband, four survive the mother. The bereaved husband and children have the heartfelt sympathy of many friends.
Mrs. Lydia E. Powell, wife of Jackson Powell, died at her home in Franklin, Friday evening at 6:30 o'clock. She was born in Mercer County, KY, Oct. 18, 1833. She was a sufferer from Bright's disease and has long been in poor health. The funeral was held from the residence, Monday at 1:30 p.m. conducted by the Rev. C.W. Lee of the Methodist Church. A large concourse of friends were in attendance. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.
