Rockville, Md., July 5--- W. Outerbridge Spates, formerly State's attorney for this county, and a leading member of the Rockville bar, died suddenly from heart desease last night at his home in Rockville, aged 39 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Spates, who is a daughter of Horace D. Waters, of Germantown, and a son, Alfred W. Spates, aged 7 years.

The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from the family residence, burial to be in Monocacy Cemetery at Beallsville.

Mr. Spates was born near Poolesville and, excepting a short time spent in Winchester, where he began the practice of law, had always lived in this county. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia, and while a member of the football team of that institution became recognized as one of the football stars of the country.

Mr. Spates was a son of Richard F. Spates, a well-known Poolesville farmer, who survives him. He was a brother of J. Roger Spates, deputy clerk of the circuit court here, and of Howard and Webster Spates, of Washington. He also leaves two sisters.
