Paul was the first son of Paul L Breedlove and Grace D McFarland. He served his country in the Army Air Force during WW-II, where he was a waist gunner on a Liberator. While on a mission on the oil fields of Ploesti, Rumania in August, 1943, his plane was shot down. He was wounded and captured. He was a prison-of-war in Rumania for over a year and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with one Oar Leaf cluster.
