Deceased Name: Herbert W. Fincher, Sr.
Mr. Fincher, 90, of Matthews died Friday, May 12, 2006 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. A service in celebration of his life will be conducted by Dr. Douglas Aldrich and Reverend Steve Combs on Monday, May 15, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Matthews United Methodist Church, Matthews, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm prior to the service. Graveside committal services will follow at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.
Herbert Fincher was born on September 27, 1915 in Mecklenburg County to the late Benjamin Clark Fincher and Ethel Smith Fincher. Herbert, one of nine children, was a retired dairy farmer. Mr. Fincher was a lifelong member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church in Matthews where he served in many capacities including church treasurer for 63 years. He was a loving husband and father and was always proud to share stories about the accomplishments of his family members. He had a passion for reading, staying current with news and politics and most of all farming. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy F. Odom and Virginia Ann Fincher, and his brothers, Dr. Curtis R. Fincher, and Benjamin C. Fincher, Jr.
He is survived by Ethel B. Fincher, his wife of 57 years, daughters, Gwen Kincaid of Bismarck, ND and her husband Dr. Jacob Kincaid and Patricia Chao of Boston, MA and her husband Ed and their 2 children, Adam and Hannah; sons, Herbert Fincher, Jr of Summerfield, NC and his wife Sandra D. Fincher and their 2 sons, Brandon and Alan, and Thomas and Laura Fincher and their daughter Kameryn. Herbert is also survived by his loving sisters, Madrid F. Funderburk of Matthews, Hazel F. Robinson of Charlotte, Peggy F. Griffin of Gastonia and caring brother Dr. Donald S. Fincher of Galax, VA and their families.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville and Charlotte and the staff at Carrington for their compassionate care during his illness and special thanks to this caregivers and friends Eleanor Benn and Hazel Gore.
Memorials in memory of Mr. Fincher may be sent to the Fincher Memorial Scholarship Fund, Brevard College, c/o Alumni House, 400 N. Broad St. Brevard, NC 28712.
Arrangements for the family are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington.
