John immigrated from Norway to Wisconsin in 1880. He married Carrie Anderson, who also immigrated from Norway in 1880. They had 7 children Caroline(Swanson), Ted, Fred, Jennie(Scribner), Annie(Knutson), Thea(Tyvoll) and Lillian(Nichols). They had a small dairy farm just south of Comstock.
John played the violin, often at dances popular at the time.
John's brother Andrew lived nearby. Also another brother, Thomas and a sister Anna(Hanson) lived in the area.
