SPANISH AMERICAN WAR ERA VETERAN

Oliver Elbert Bennett was the son of Elbert and Ella (Howard) Bennett. He was born July 15, 1875 in Nebraska. He was by occupation a newspaper man.

Military Record:
Enlisted August 9, 1899 in Butte, Montana. Assigned to Band, 34th U. S. Army Infantry. Mustered out of Regiment on April 17, 1901 at Presidio, California with rank of Sergeant. His second enlistment was July 15, 1902 at Bremerton with the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged on July 14, 1906 at Bremerton. Pension awarded on Certificate No. 2,350.361.

Oliver married Maude L. Schlee on November 27, 1902 in Tacoma.

He applied for admission to the Washington Veterans Home at Retsil on May 3, 1929.

Mr. Bennett died September 22, 1953 at the Naval Hospital in Bremerton. He is buried in the Home Cemetery.
