Sherman W. Ferris Jr., 85, died at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, March 13,. 2001, at Greenwood Manor West Nursing Home in Jerseyville. Born July 14, 1915, in Charles City, Va., he was a son of the late Sherman Walter and Charlotte (Brown) Ferris Sr.

A construction pipe fitter, he was a 50-year member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 469 in Phoenix, Ariz. He lived in Prescott, Ariz. from 1949 until retiring in1979 and moving to Jerseyville. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville, Masonic Lodge394, Tri-County Antique Club and Alton Antique Auto Association.

He and the former Zelma (Noble) Hake exchanged vows Sept. 17, 1972, in Elsah. She died Sept. 29,1998.

A stepson, Douglas N. Hake, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. today at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Masonic services at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. Friday until time of services at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville. The Rev. Mike Pennell will officiate. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to the church or Jerseyville Free Library.
