Russell L. Coon Jr., 67, R.R.6, Rushville, Ind., died at 9:52 a.m. Monday, May 27, 1991 in the St. Vincents Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born Feb. 5, 1924 in Fayette County, the son of Russell L. and Elizabeth "Betty" Newby Coon. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Rushville, and was a former Rush County commissioner. He was a member of the Rush Memorial Hospital Board, of the VFW 1541, the American Legion, the Whitewater Valley Canal Railroad Restoration Association, the Tri-State Gas Engine and Old Tractor Association, the Rush County Conservation Club, the Fraternal Order of Police 117, the Elks Club, the Sheriffs Association and a member and director of the Pioneer Engineers of Indiana.

On Oct. 20, 1949, he married Ruth Dusing and she survives, with his mother, Elizabeth Coon Burkhardt, Rushville, Ind.; two sons, Donald and David Coon, both of Rushville, Ind., four daughters, Mrs. Frederick (Beth) Walsh, Hazelton, Pa., Frances Plummer, Rushville, Mrs. David (Minday) Lower, R.R.5, Rushville and Mrs. William (Denise) Vivian, Mooresville, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Joenita) Schneider, Lewisville, Ind., and Mrs. Leo (Jean) Rish, Connersville, Ind. and Mrs. Daniel (Kay) Vible, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.

The services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rushville, Ind., with the Rev. Father William Cleary officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Todd Funeral Home, Rushville, Ind., from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
