Mr. Barstow was recruited by the Army of Texas in New Orleans by Captain Amasa Turner, and he arrived in Velasco, on January 28, 1836. He was a member of Captain Richard Roman's Company during the victory at San Jacinto, and ended up as one of the Texans guarding the captured Mexican General Santa Anna. Months after the battle they had the General captive at Dr. Phelps home at Orizimba, and Joshua Barstow lost his life to an unknown or unrecorded cause.
