James died in an auto accident as he was responding to a call. He had been a state police officer since June 18, 2004 and was a New Mexico State Police Officer and Staff Sergeant of The United States Marine Corps. and Veteran of Operation Iraq Freedom. He is survived by his fiancée, Veronica Archuleta; children, Alexis Jean and Jesse-James Archuleta all of El Rito; mother, Phyllis Archuleta and step-father, Levie of El Rito; father, Donnie Archuleta of Denver; step-mother, Becky Archuleta of Colorado; siblings, Jessica Martinez and husband Paul of Las Tablas, Leon Archuleta and fiancée Saraphine Herrera of Phoenix and Jennifer Archuleta of Las Tablas; maternal grandparents, Joe and Mae Herrera of Española; paternal grandparents, Don and Irene Archuleta of Colorado and Frances and Ted Archuleta of El Rito; mother-in-law to be, Cecilia Archuleta of Española; great-grandfather, Juan O'Caña of El Rito; great-grandmother, Amelia Martinez of Cerro; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael Archuleta, Joseph Archuleta and wife Doreen and Crystal Archuleta all of Española; friends who were like brothers, Gilbert Tafoya of Santa Fe, Eric Moya of El Paso. He was 27.
