On the sad side of the news, I was informed today that one of my PBCs for Ch. Ten's May party was killed in a car accident Sunday near El Paso, TX.

Darren Allen was my daughter's close friend. He and his twin brother, Darryl, joined ECV at Hammon Grove. The brothers were both college professors and were identical down to theor beards and body shape. Even their voices were nearly identical.

Darryl emailed me the very sad news. Darren was rear-ended by a semi-truck on I-10 Sunday night.Darren Michael Allen (1963 - 2016)

NOGALES, Ariz. - Darren Michael Allen, 53, died in a traffic accident on July 10 in El Paso County, Texas.

Darren was born on April 19, 1963, in San Francisco, raised in Oakland, Calif., and moved to Cuba, N.Y., in 1976. He graduated from Cuba Central School, now Cuba-Rushford Central School, in 1981. Darren graduated from Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, Tenn., in 1987 with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics with minors in computer science and physics; and a master of science degree in mathematics with a minor in computer science in 1989.

Darren often drove his 1989 Ford Road Ranger to visit friends and family. He loved music, playing guitar and fixing and building stuff. He enjoyed teaching math, food and cooking, camping, traveling and seeing different places. He was soft-hearted, loved his family and helped strangers with car problems and picked up hitchhikers.

At the time of his death, Darren was a mathematics teacher at Cochise College's Santa Cruz Center, Nogales, Arizona.

Darren is survived by a daughter, Fiona Allen of Louisiana; mother, Yolanda (Colangelo) Allen of Buffalo and Florida; a twin brother, Darryl Allen of California; brother, Eric Allen of North Carolina; sisters, Sharlene Allen of Pennsylvania and Andrea LeCompte of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Allen; and brothers, Calvin Allen and Gregory Allen.

Darren was cremated and his ashes were given to his family. A memorial is not planned at this time.
