Herman Otis "Lefty" Glasscock was the son of Henry Franklin "Frank" Glasscock and Amanda Catherine "Mandy" Griffith. He was born in Earlsboro, Oklahoma on June 18, 1907.

Herman had 10 siblings: Belvy Leila Glasscock (West), Earl Smith Glasscock, Burley Green Glasscock, Robert Dolphus "Dolf" Glasscock, Minnie Mavis Glasscock (Jones), Henry Walter Glasscock, William Albert "Bill" Glasscock, George Almus Glasscock and Mabel Eleanor Glasscock (both of whom died in infancy), and Ethel B. Glasscock (Shane).

Herman was married twice. His first marriage was to Violet Virginia Stites; the date of their union is unknown. Together, they had two children: Donald Eugene Glasscock and Leland Rosco "Lucky" Glasscock.

After Violet's death in 1947, Herman went on to remarry Minnie Jones on March 3, 1944 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Together, they had six children: Auda Vianna Glasscock (Martin), Cecil Ray Glasscock, Thomas Franklin Glasscock, Cathy Glasscock (Collins), and twins Roy Dee and Troy Lee Glasscock (both of whom died young).

Herman passed away in Willow Springs, Missouri on February 13, 1991. He was buried at Clear Springs Cemetery in Clear Springs where he and his wife, Minnie, share a headstone.
