Gerald “Jerry” J. Kloss, 69, of Chetek died on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005, peacefully at his home.

Jerry was born on Nov. 29, 1935, in Eau Claire, Wis., to Clarence and Eleanor (Girard) Kloss.

Most of his grade school years were at Sacred Heart School in Eau Claire. He graduated from Regis High School, Eau Claire. Soon after his graduation he joined the Air Force and attended dental assistant school at Great Lakes Naval Air Base. In his eight years in the Air Force, he was stationed in Wyoming and Morocco.

Jerry married Betty Cobble in 1957. They had two sons, Michael and Daniel. Betty passed away on Dec. 5, 2000.

After the Air Force, Jerry worked for the American Tobacco Company, Land O’ Lakes and Philip Morris Company. He retired as division manager. His jobs had him and his family moving from Wisconsin to Indiana. When Jerry retired he moved to Chetek on Lake Ojaski. Besides being an active member of St. Boniface Parish and the Six Lakes Council of the Knights of Columbus, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels, spent a summer with the Appalachian Project in Tennessee and was a board member of the Interfaith Care Givers of Barron County. He loved flying small planes, fishing and camping with grandsons and friends, cooking, computers and joking. He loved people and people loved him. During some of his retirement years, he worked at the MRI in Rice Lake.

Jerry is survived by his second wife, Rosine (Kaminski); his mother, Eleanor; his two sons, Michael (Leisa) of Chetek and Daniel (Patricia) of Fischer, Ind.; his grandchildren, Kelly, David, Jonathan, Amanda, Jessica and Allison; and later this year, his first great-grandchild; brothers, William and Kenneth; aunt, Laverne Baker; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; Betty, his loving wife of 42 years; and his brother, Robert.

A Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, March 31, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Chetek with Father Michael Hayden officiating. Burial will take place following the Mass at St. Boniface Cemetery, Chetek, with military honors accorded at the grave.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at Burnham-Ours Funeral Home in Chetek. A holy rosary by the Knights of Columbus will take place Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. followed by a “Time of Remembrance.”
