Mr. Dow Thurman Baker, age 89, of Lavonia, died Saturday, September 27, 2009 at Stephens County Hospital following an extended illness.
Born January 12, 1920, in Stephens County, he was the son of the late Daniel & Nora Bell Baker. He was a graduate of Lavonia High School Class of 1939. He also graduated from Piedmont College and the University of Georgia Graduate School. He taught at the Lavonia Elementary School, Franklin County Middle School, and Franklin County High School's Gifted Program. Mr. Baker was an accomplished pianist and taught piano.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew: Joe Reynolds.
He is survived by his sister: Onida Baker Reynolds; nephews: Nicky Reynolds & Marie and Keith Reynolds & Pat; and grandnieces and grandnephews: Keifer Reynolds, Conice Reynolds Spencer, Nicholas Reynolds, Ashley Ware, & Leslie Reynolds.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Brian David, Mr. Fred Addison, & Dr. Joe Renfro officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the Carnegie Library of Lavonia.
