Samuel Columbus Guffey was the son of John L. Guffey and Rachel Wildman of Alabama. He married Altha Jane Hill in Mount Pleasant, Titus County, Texas July 22, 1899. Altha Jane Hill was the daughter of John W. Hill and Missouri Drusilla Ridge Hill.

Altha Jane and Samuel C. Guffey were married on July 22, 1899 in Mount Pleasant, Titus Co., Texas. The marriage ceremony was performed by E. H. Smith.

His death certificate gives little information. He was a farmer who lived in Clawson born in 1872.

April 30, 1940

Mr. S.C. Guffey, age 67, passed away at his residence in Clawson this morning at 7:30 A.M. after a long illness. He has been a resident of Angelina County for the past 25 years and was a well known farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. S. C. Guffey; two daughters, Mrs. Linnie Cates of Clawson and Miss Grace Guffey of Tennessee; one brother Lewis Guffey of Alabama anf [sic - and] five Grand children.

Funeral services will be held from the Assembly of God Church in Clawson [handwritten in is "tommorrow"] at 2:00 P.M., with Rev. Robert Sheddon officiating.

Interment will be in Dunn Cemetery.
