Joseph Groves married Catherine Staley Groves about 1810 in Jefferson County, Virginia. Their children were Sarah Ann, an unnamed daughter, Jacob, Stephen, William Thomas, Rebecca (m. William B. Akins), Elizabeth (m. Sewell Gerrish), Daniel Staley, Joseph A., and Catherine (m. first Wesley H. Six, second Amos Northrup Baldwin). After Catherine's death, Joseph married Elizabeth Ann Hunter Champ (first husband was Madison B. Champ). Their children were Nancy J., Frances, and Henry who died an infant shortly before Joseph died.

From Drexel: The First Hundred Years, pg. 182:
Joseph Groves was the father of the Groves brothers and sister who settled in West Boone Township. He was born in 1790 and married first, Catherine Staley and second, Elizabeth. Catherine was the mother of Jacob, William, Thomas, Daniel, Joseph, and Stephen J. Frances, known as "Fanny" was the daughter of his second wife and was a half sister of the brothers. She was born January 14, 1853, in Versailles, Brown County, Illinois, and married in August 1872 William W. Cory at Fairmount, Pike County, Illinois. They came to Missouri and settled near Sharon Church . Stephen J. Groves married and remained in Illinois.

Please note: Joseph Groves is actually buried in Brown County, IL, in an undisclosed location, as is his daughter Sarah Ann Groves Riley, his first wife Catherine, and the infant, Henry. His will was probated in Brown County, IL. Thanks to information provided by Rebecca Groves Sandberg, I was able to view and copy it. This memorial was probably established by the family of Joseph's second wife, Elizabeth Ann Hunter Champ Groves.
