Father Al Walsh

Father AL WALSH passed away on the 1st of December 2007, at the age of 78. Father Al was born in Knocklong, County Limerick, Ireland on the 4th of August 1929. He was the fifth of ten children. He studied in both England and America completing his education in Philosophy in Ireland. Al came to America in 1957 to study at St. Mary's Seminary. Upon reflection, he decided to leave the seminary and went to work for Dunn and Bradstreet. This determined his business career for the rest of his life. However, in his heart he loved the priesthood. Upon meeting his wife Linda Cowell Walsh, they married in 1961. Al and Linda were married for 27 years and had five sons. In 1975 the Walsh family moved from Houston to South Africa, where Linda's mother lived. In 1985 Linda passed away from cancer. Being as his children were grown, Al returned to the seminary in 1987 at St. John Vianney in Pretoria, South Africa. In 1991 he wrote to Arch-Bishop Fiorenza and requested to be accepted back to the Diocese of Galveston-Houston. Al was ordained by Arch-Bishop Fiorenza in Houston, Texas, on the 23rd of May 1992. Father Al Walsh served at several parishes in the diocese, St Luke the Evangelist; St Laurence in Sugar Land; and as Pastor at Guardian Angel Church, in Wallis, and at St Anthony of Padua, in the Woodlands. Father Al resided at St. Vincent de Paul since February 2005. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 siblings and two sons. He was the proud father to, Albert (Tex) Walsh, (wife-Hazel); Robert Walsh, (wife-Siobhan); Brian Walsh (deceased); Richard Walsh, (wife-Helen); and Mark Walsh (deceased), (widow-Christine). He leaves six beautiful granddaughters, six siblings and their spouses, many nieces and nephews, and many friends who will miss him greatly. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway in Houston. A vigil service will commence at seven o'clock in the evening.
