Larry Smith was the son of Norton C. Smith (1912-2007) and Marvel Leota (Hewitt) Smith (1915-2003). He was their oldest child, followed by daughter Karen (Smith/Beauchamp/Hollingsworth) Daniel, and son Michael S. Smith.

Norton "Larry" Smith, 68, of Wapello, died at 2:56 a.m. Sunday, April 17, 2005, at his home.

Born November 21, 1936, in Burlington, he was the son of Norton C. and Marvel Hewitt Smith. On April 25, 1953, he married Shirley Broeker in Kahoka, Missouri.

Mr. Smith was an over-the-road truck driver for J.I. Case Company. He previously worked for Hewitt and Dearmin Trucking Company and the Morning Sun and Continental Telephone Company.

He was raised in Winfield and was a member of the former Marsh Methodist Church. He was a member of Cushman Club of America and Teamsters Local No. 43 of Racine, Wisconsin. He loved driving trucks, motorcycles, John Deere tractors and working.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Randy Smith of Wapello and John Smith of Oakville; two daughters, Deb Smith-Ulstad of Mason City and Joni Hollingsworth of Morning Sun; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his father of Muscatine; one sister, Karen Daniels of Cape Canaveral, Florida; and one brother, Michael Smith of St. Johns, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his mother, one infant daughter, one infant grandson and his grandparents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Louisa Center Church in Wapello. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated.

The graveside memorial service for Mr. Smith will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun, with the Reverend James Huston officiating.

Memorials have been established for Louisa County Cancer Society, Iowa City Cancer Center and Iowa City Hospice.
