Father Augustine Thanh Hue Nguyen was hospitalized Sunday, May 10, and died Tuesday, May 12th. Born January 17, 1929 in Nghia-binh, Vietnam, to the late Dominic Nguyen-Khoung and the late Anne Vo-Thi-Luu, Father Augustine was ordained a priest June 2, 1964 by Bishop Dominic Hoang-Van-Doan at Quang-Ngai Province, Vietnam. He held degrees in philosophy and theology from universities in Vietnam. Upon arrival in the United States in September 1985, he was assigned to serve as parochial vicar at Saints Peter and Paul Mission in Panama City, Florida, a post he held until 1988. From 1988 - 2002, he served first as Administrator and then Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish in Pensacola. In February, 2007, Father Augustine retired, but continued to serve and make himself available to the Vietnamese community at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish and the greater Vietnamese community of Northwest Florida. The body of Father Augustine will lie in state at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, 3295 Barrancas Avenue, Pensacola. Mass will be celebrated at 5:30pm on Friday, May 15th followed by viewing and visitation. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am on Saturday, May 16th at St. Thomas More, 3295 Barrancas Avenue followed by burial in the priests mound at Holy Cross Cemetery.
