BIOGRAPHY of REVEREND ANTON LUC NGHI TRAN

- Born: September 7, 1962

- Ordained: March 23, 1996

- Died: September 8, 2015

OVER VIEW: Father Luc Tran was ordained as a priest of the Society of the Divine Word on March 23rd, 1996. He was a graduate of Divine Word College in Epworth, Iowa; and also a graduate of Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, Illinois.

He was a native of Vietnam, and survived the Fall of Saigon, escaping from Communist Vietnam in 1982 and surviving in a refugee camp in Indonesia. He emigrated to the US and settled in Virginia with his parents and siblings.

He served as a SVD priest in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles from 1996 to 2000. He was assigned by his order to the Diocese of San Bernardino in July 2000 when he served as Parochial Vicar at St. Mary of the Valley Parish in Yucca Valley. Father Tran left the Diocese in May 2002 and then returned in September 2002 as a candidate for incardination when he was also assigned as Parochial Vicar of St. Anne’s Parish in San Bernardino.

On July 1, 2004 he was assigned half-time to St. Anne’s Parish, San Bernardino as Chaplain for the Vietnamese Community and half-time as Priest Minister to Our Lady of Fatima and Christ the King Parishes in San Bernardino. On July 1st, 2005 he was assigned as Priest Minister of Christ the King, Our Lady Fatima, and St. Anne’s Parishes when a Pastoral Coordinator was appointed for all 3 parishes.

On July 1st, 2006 he was appointed as Priest Minister of the newly established parish of Our Lady of Hope Parish, San Bernardino. He was appointed as Administrator of St. Joseph Parish in Fontana in July 2008 where he served until he started Canon Law studies at the Catholic University of America in 2011. He received the Licentiate in Canon Law Degree (JCL) in June 2014. He was incardinated as a priest of the Diocese of San Bernardino on September 8th, 2007.

He leaves behind both of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Le Van Tran, seven brothers, one sister, and several nieces and nephews. He will have his funeral Mass and burial in Sterling, Virginia, where his parents live.
