Rev. Mayo was born September 13, 1923 in Boyd County Kentucky to the late Roy and Verna Sue Montgomery Mayo. He was one of our WW II heroes, serving in the Army Aircorp. He received a purple heart, 3 bronze stars and many medals during his service and tour over Normandy during D-day.
He was an ordained minister and had pastored churches in Gadsden, Wattsville, Pell City, Adamsville, Enterprise, AL and Houston, Texas. He served as a Home Missionary from 1973 to 1992. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church as well as a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his parents, his wife of 58 years Alma McGlone Mayo; two infant children, Paula Sue Mayo and Joe Darren Mayo, son, Harold Mayo of Adamsville, AL, granddaughter, Sonya Dawn Mayo: two brothers, Max Mayo of Ohatchee, AL and Elden Ray Mayo of Columbus, GA preceded him in death.
