In a letter Peter Gerardy tells about their little son, George, who drowned in a spring on June 6, 1874, at the age of two:
"My wife has been sick a long time from the loss of her baby. She is resigned to it again. It was a sudden terrible blow (shock) when she pulled the little one from the water. It was an awful shock to me, too, and I believe I would have fallen ill too if I didn't conquer my pains because I reproach myself for not having covered the (water) hole. I don't think of it any longer. That which is past is past and my little George sleeps."
Marie Faivre Wood recalls George was buried in a cemetery in Washington County. Because Caroline had grieved so at leaving the baby buried up in Washington County, away from the family, her sons removed the box with the little body (putting old box and its contents inside a new box) and buried little George at his mother's feet soon after Caroline died.

There is no marker, but George is buried in his parent's lot, at the feet of his mother.
