Joshua served as a Private with the 1st Delaware Infantry, Company D during the Civil War.

He was on detached duty at Wilmington/Tilton General Hospital from January 5th 1863 to July 1863.

On May 6th 1864, Joshua received a gun shot wound to the left thigh at the battle of the Wilderness. He was admitted to Finley General Hospital in Washington D.C. on May 16th.

Joshua "Died Of Those Wounds" while in the Hospital during the war.
