-- ROCK HILL - Mr. James Ray Dover Sr., 96, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Willowbrook Court, of Park Pointe Village. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011, at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Debra Quilling Smith officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery following the service. Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Dover was a son of the late James Ray Dover and the late Lottie Hines Dover. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, was a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from 1942 to 1945, in the Asiatic- Pacific Campaign. He was a member of the Rock Hill Elks Club and was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Cook Dover. Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Beard Dover of Rock Hill; his son, James Ray Dover Jr. and wife, Melissa, of Houston, Texas; stepson, John Sippel and wife, Margie, of Rock Hill; three grandchildren, Scarlett Shaffer, Nancy Dover and James Ray Dover III; and three stepgrandchildren, Julie Wacaster, Patrick Sippel and Katie Rollings. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2011, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011, at St. John's UMC, prior to the service.
