Shreveport, LA – Mr. Eddie Joe Peters, 67, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness. A visitation will be held at Friday at 9:30 am followed by a funeral service, 10:00 am at Osborn Funeral Home, 3631 Southern Avenue, Shreveport, LA. Interment will follow at Forest Park cemetery on St. Vincent Ave.

After graduating from C. E. Byrd High School in 1965, where he played percussion at the Interlochen Arts Academy, 1961-1965, in the All City Band, 1963, All State Band, 1963-1964, and performed in the world band in East Berlin, Ed attended the Columbia Military Academy before joining the US Navy in 1968. He served from 1968-1974, attaining the rating of Cryptologic Technician 2nd Class and seeing service aboard the USS Talladega, USS Wilson and USS Roosevelt. He also served at US Navy Communication Station, Guam, in Vietnam, and at the US Navy Communication Station, Corry Field, Pensacola, FL. While at the latter station, he received a letter of appreciation for saving lives and property during Hurricane Camille.

Joining the American Legion in 1971, Ed was a member of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 in Shreveport until 1993 when he transferred to Oil City Post 138 where he served as finance officer, adjutant and post commander. He returned to Post 14 in 2012 and served on the executive committee, an office he held at the time of his death. Ed was also a member of VFW Post 2238 and St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral.

Wrecked into the 40/8 Society on May 19, 1973, after being invited to join the prestigious honor society of veterans by his father, the late Gilbert D. Peters, Ed served Voiture Locale 137 well for 43 years. He held numerous offices, including Drapeau, Garde de la Porte, Correspondant, Chef de Train #2, Chef de Train #1, Sous Conducteur, Conducteur, chairman of the Carville Star, Box Car, Americanism/Flags for First Graders and the 1993 and 2013 Anniversary Party Committees and a valued member of the Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service (VAVS) Visitation Team, Train Crew and Wrecking Crew. Ed also served as Grand Aide de Camp to Grand Chef Gare Paul L. Strange.

Ed was a Master Mason, being a member of Joppa Lodge #362, Free and Accepted Masons, since 1968. Ed was also a Royal Arch Mason, a member of the General Grand Council of Cryptic Masons and holding the title of Illustrious Master, Shreveport Council #23 RAM at the time of his death. He was a member of Ascension Commandery No. 6, Order of the Knights Templar, El Karubah Shrine Temple and a past member and Worthy Patron of the Broadmoor Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Mr. Peters was preceded indeath by his father, Gilbert D. Peters; mother, Edna O. Peters; and grandson, Thomas S. Cross, III. He is survived by his daughter, Leslea and her husband, Stephen Moore of Bossier City, LA; brother, Fred Peters and wife, Jean of Shreveport, LA; and nephews John Peters and Jason Peters and their families.
