Enlisted July, 14 1862 into Co A 55th Ohio Volunteers led by Captain Gambey. Was wounded at the first Battle of Fredericksburg in Dec 1862. Received a disability discharge on 23 Dec 1862 at Stafford Court House, VA.
Enlisted Sep 17, 1863 with Company H, Ohio 9th Cavalry Regiment. Taken prisoner at Raleigh, NC while working as a scout, imprisoned for 17 days before he escaped with two companions. (1)
