Birth: 1740
Prince William County
Virginia, USA
Death: Sep., 1799
Muhlenberg County
Kentucky, USA

LEWIS RENO was born 1740 in Prince William Co., VA, and died September 1799 in Green River, Muhlenberg Co., KY; buried Kincheloe's Bluff Cemetery. HIs parents were:
Lewis Reno and Elizabeth Whitledge. He married ELIZABETH TACKETT Bet. 1761 - 1763 in Prince William Co., VA, daughter of WILLIAM TACKETT and SARAH WATERS. She was born Abt. 1756 in Prince William Co., VA, and died Aft. 1782.

He is referred to in various records of Prince William County as "Lewis the younger". In the 1750s he served as a corporal for 93 days in the French and Indian Wars (p. 162 in Virginia's Colonial Soldiers, by Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck). Court Minute Records for Prince William Co., VA on June 3, 1767 list him as Lewis Reno. On October 3, 1774 he and his brothers Thomas and David posted a bond for their father Lewis Reno's last will and testament, and he signed his name Lewis Reno y for "Lewis the younger". In 1776 he received a bequest of 105 acres on the north side of Broad Run (part of the original Reno-Chevalle Grant of 1710) under the will of his father. On September 4, 1779, he sold 2-1/2 acres of this land to William Ashmore for a mill site (Pr. Wm. Co. Deed Book U, p.49), and he sold the remaining 102-3/4 acres to James West on September 6, 1779. On December 1, 1796, Lynn West conveyed this 102-3/4 acre parcel to Enoch Reno. As Lewis Reno, Jr. he received a settlement of his account against the estate of Thomas Reno on Nov. 1, 1779 (Pr. Wm. Co. Bk. G, p.69). Lewis Reno the younger was listed as a taxpayer in Pr. Wm. Co. in 1783 and 1787. He sold 142 acres on Cedar Run, part of the original Reno-Tackett Grant of 1711, to John Kincheloe on October 7, 1794 (Pr. Wm. Co. Deed Bk. Y, p.134).
The "History of Kentucky, Illustrated 1885" by J. H. Battle et al. says that Lewis emigrated to Pennsylvania and then had a hotel room in Virginia before moving to Nelson Co., Kentucky in 1790. This is probably incorrect based on the records for him in Prince William County during the 1790s. There is a land claim for 200 acres on Nelson Creek in Christian Co., KY by Lewis Reno on December 7, 1798 (Book 19, p.475). Probably in late 1798, when he was close to 60 years old and several years after his sons moved to Kentucky, Lewis and his family moved with Lewis Kincheloe's family to Muhlenberg County and founded the town of Lewisburg or Kincheloe's Bluff where Nelson Creek enters the Green River. Lewis Reno lived there for about a year until he died in 1799, and he is buried in the Kincheloe Bluff cemetery. His wife Elizabeth Reno was allowed a claim for 400 acres on Cypress Creek in an area reserved for veterans of the Revolutionary War (Muhl. Co. Court Order Bk. 1, p.146, 23 Mar. 1801). His sons Jesse Reno and Lewis Reno also each claimed 400 acres on Cypress Creek in March 1801. During the War of 1812 at Lewisburg, William Kincheloe and Charles Fox Wing raised a company of militia who reported to Michigan. Captain Kincheloe died just before the Battle of Thames.
