Dominic Simonetti, West Deer

Dominic Simonetti, 83, of Russellton, West Deer, died Sunday, March 22, 1992, in St. Margaret Memorial Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born March 6, 1909, in Superior, he lived in West Deer most of his life.

Mr. Simonetti was a janitor for West Deer School District for 10 years before retiring. Prior to that, he was a coal miner for 40 years in the Republic Steel Mine in West Deer and Harwick Mines in Springdale Township.

He was a member of Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, Sons of Columbus and Golden Agers, all in West Deer, and Arnold Columbiana Lodge.

Mr. Simonetti, an avid baseball fan, founded the Pony and Little League in West Deer and was a former manager of West Deer Anvets semi-professional baseball team.

He enjoyed dancing and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Eugene Simonetti of West Deer; a daughter, Mrs. Caesar (Dolores) Cetti of Russellton; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother Arkline “Ike” Simonetti of Harwick; and three sisters, Roma Guerrieri of Ligonier, Annie Gezzi of Russellton and Mrs. Al (Clara) Frigge of Chicago.

Mr. Simonetti was proceeded in death by his wife, Jessie Bassetti Simonetti in 1986; his parents, Frank and Emidiola Trevellini Simonetti; two brothers, Pete and Bill Simonetti; and a sister, Mary Jetts.

Friends were received Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. and will be received today from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Ronald J. Ellena Funeral Home, Star Road, Russellton. Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 9 a.m. in Transfiguration Church by his pastor, the Rev. John Sweeney. Burial will be in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar.
