Margaret C. Hougland was the first daughter of Robert J. Gillaspy (b.1837,IN) and Carlyle Sellers (b.1839,IN). Margaret was born in Sellersburg, Clark Co, IN. Her mother, Carlyle was the daughter of Moses Wilkerson Sellers (b.1796,N.C.), founder of Sellersburg, and Margaret Littell. (b.1817,P.A.) Carlyle died when Margaret was only 2y 11m, which was just one month after giving birth to her second daughter, Sally C. Gillaspy. Sally too died nine months later. Census records suggest that Margaret may have been raised by her Aunt Cynthia A. (Gillaspy) Hougland.
On October 25, 1876 Margaret married William A. Hougland, and together they had 10 children. Margaret died in Louisville, KY from natural causes.
