Lucas George was born in Virginia, but was orphaned when both his parents died on their way to Tennessee to settle. He grew up in Wilson County, Tennessee, near Lebanon and there met and married Nancy Forbess. The young couple farmed until 1856 when they decided to move to Texas. They traveled to Texas in a covered wagon with their seven children. Later an eighth child was born in Collin County, Texas.

Other families came to Texas with them, including Frank Dowell and Ed Chambers.

In 1858 Lucas George bought a tract of land from Paschal H. and Martha H. Rice. The land lay northwest of McKinney in what was later called the Vineland Community. They were members of the Vineland Community Church.

According to his great granddaughter,Ruby, he is buried in an unmarked grave.
