Alton Beverly "Pappie" Davis, 77, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, December 7, 2007, in Ville Platte, LA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Elsie Mae Ragland Davis on April 17, 2007. Born April 22, 1930, in Dare, VA, he was the son of the late John Burgess Davis, Sr. and the late Cora Lee Crump Davis Layne. He was a member of Fairview Christian Church and was retired from B. & W. He served his country during the Korean War with the US Air Force. He is survived by three sons: Joe Davis and wife Patricia of Toronto, Canada, Michael A. Davis of Lynchburg and John S. Davis and wife Rachel of Ville Platte, LA; six grandchildren: Patrick, Ryan, Ashley, Quinten, David and Jeremy; one great grandson, Gavin; one sister, Frances Marie Davis Feldman of Fla.; and one brother, Franklin B. Davis of NC. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Reverend D. Jack Hamilton. Interment, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 16, will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Family visitation will be from 7 – 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the funeral home. Whitten Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Timberlake Chapel, (434) 239-0331, is serving the family.
