He died of a wound or complication(s) of a wound to a knee sustained November 25, 1863, at the Battle of Armstrong's Hill, south of Knoxville, TN during the Siege of Knoxville. His name is on the wall at the Veteran's Memorial, Belden, Ohio and there is a memorial stone along the walkway for him. The stone incorrectly states that he was "killed in action," which he was not. He died 3 days after he was wounded.
