OBITUARY: Baraboo Evening News, Baraboo, Sauk Co., WI, 4/1/1895, pg. 3

Mr. and Mrs. James Fowler No More

Mr. and Mrs. James B. Fowler passed away near together. They have resided in Sauk county for many years and were known as the older residents.

James B. Fowler died on Saturday night, of pneumonia, after an illness of only two days. He was born in Virginia fifty-four years ago and came with his parents to Sauk county when quite young and settled with them upon a farm in the town of Kingston, now Sumpter. When the war came on in 1861 he enlisted in Co. A, Sixth Wisconsin Infantry, and in 1863 was promoted to a lieutenantship in the Seventeenth Wisconsin. His brother, Allison Fowler, was killed in the battle of Gettysburg in 1863.

Just before he left for the South he married Miss Jammeson. When he returned from the army they lived for several years on Sauk Prairie and afterwards came to Baraboo, residing in the Willett property on Sixth avenue. For some time they have lived on the Gowan farm, which is located between this city and Devil's Lake. Death resulted from pneumonia. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and was fish and game warden at the time of his death.

Mrs. James B. Fowler died also of pneumonia on Sunday night at half past two, aged fifty-two.

Mr. and Mrs. Fowler had but one child, Miss Lizzie Fowler, who is now at Pomona, California. Miss Fowler was so prostrated with the sad news that she telegraphed that she could not be present at the funeral.

THe last sad rites will be held at the home on Wednesday at 10:30, interment taking place in Sumpter.

Notes: Obituary incorrectly states Isabella Jameson's last name as Jammeson.

Obituary also omits James & Isabella's first child, William, who died while James was serving in the war. He writes about the death in his Civil War Journal. Also omitted is an infant, Zaidee.
