Joseph P. Gillerlain, age 69, husband of the late Mrs. Ellen Mary Donovan Gillerlain, died Tuesday, December 1, 1953 at 2:00 am in a Portsmouth hospital.

He resided at 218 North Street.


A native of Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Peter Joseph and Mrs. Mary Nolan Gillerlain. He was a retired planner and estimator at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 418.


Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. F.W. Carson and Mrs. Glenn S. Simmons of Portsmouth and Mrs. A.D. Harrison and Mrs. F. S. Bazemore of Norfolk; three sons, Joseph D. Gillerlain, Leon N. Gillerlain and Frank H. Gillerlain, all of Portsmouth; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.


The body was taken yesterday afternoon from the Richardson and Foster Funeral Home to the residence where rosary services will be observed today at 8:00 p.m.


Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.
