Son Of Thomas Clarkson Cummings (P.K.A Sampson Cummings) and Elizabeth Chapman. Husband of Lucinda C. Orr.

He was born in Batavia, NY, though family was from Lynn, Ma, where they all returned to in is childhood.

He served in the Civil war, Company I, 29th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts. During his first tour, as a Private, second as a Sergeant. He was wounded in the leg at the Battle of Wellington Railroad in Virginia. He served with Distinguishable Service and was honorably discharged in 1865. He was a member of General Lander, G.A.R.Post #5, Lynn,Ma.
