Dr. R. P. Middleton Answers Last Call
Hazlehurst and Jeff Davis County lost one of its very best citizens in the death of Dr. Raymond Porter Middleton, 53, which occurred early Saturday morning after an illness lasting several months. Dr. Middleton lost his health some two years ago and since has been under the care of all the local doctors as well as some of the most eminent specialists in the state, besides visiting several health resorts, but nothing proved beneficial and only death relieved him of his suffering.
Dr. Middleton came to Hazlehurst from Savannah in the summer of 1911 and entered the drug business, being owner and proprietor of the Middleton Drug Company of Hazlehurst. This business grew and prospered under his efficient management and he not only enjoyed a good business, but loved and appreciated a large circle of friends throughout this section of Georgia.
A widow, one daughter, Mrs. E. W. Groover of Miami Beach, FL, and two sons, Harmon and Raymond, survive. Funeral services were held in the Hazlehurst Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Frank Snell officiating. He was buried in the Hazlehurst Cemetery with Masonic honors.
