Shannon, age 85, was born in Oklahoma and had lived in Hanford for the past 51 years. He met his future wife, Helen L. Carson, in Alpaugh, where her father was the Methodist minister at the local Methodist church. Shannon and Helen were married in 1930 and made their home in Alpaugh until 1936, when they moved to the Guernsey area where they farmed. In 1964 they moved to Oregon, but due to illness, they returned to Hanford in 1966. Shannon survived an accident, suffering a head injury that left him severely handicapped. Helen lovingly took care of him the last 25 years of his life. They had two sons, David and John. Shannon was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
