Barb Allen "Bob" Healer

Barb Allen "Bob" Healer, 71, of Cave Junction, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997, at his home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Illinois Valley Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Robert A. Ledden officiating. Mausoleum entombment will follow at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

He was born July 7, 1926, at Roby, Texas [to Oscar V. and Myrtle Healer]. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1943 and made two complete trips around the world. He served on the El Morra, the George H. Dern, and the Francis Marion and was discharged in 1946. On June 23, 1947, he married the former Martha Scogin in Jayton, Texas. They moved to California where he worked at the C & H Sugar refinery at Crockett, Calif., for several years. He then went to meat cutting school and became a meat cutter. He owned his own retail meat market in Vallejo, Calif, was a partner in a meat market in Calistoga, Calif., and later in Napa, Calif., before ill health forced him to retire. In 1987 they moved to Cave Junction.

Healer loved to hunt and was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his wife, Martha Healer of Cave Junction; survivors include a son, Bud Healer of Port Orchard, Wash.; two daughters, Cathy Wiscarson of Harker Heights, Texas, and Vickii Garcia of Napa, Calif.; two sisters, LaVerna Gibson of Jayton, Texas, and Kay Collins of Amarillo, Texas; two brothers, Lee Healer and Dwain Healer, both of Napa, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
