Brodersen gets death sentence
VANCOUVER, Wash. (UPI) - John Richard Brodersen, 34-year old convicted knife - slayer of a camas, Wash., used car dealer, was sentenced Friday to be hanged on June 24. He asked to be sentenced.
Brodersen was given the death sentence in the Clark County Superior Court of Judge Cushing.
It was a dramatic turn of events that led to the sentencing.
Brodersen asked the court to be sentenced and have the date of execution set after his attorneys, James Gregg and William Boetcher, had completed their motion for argument for a new trial.
Brodersen, in reversing his attorney's stand, said he had already made his peace with God and wanted no interference in carring out the death penalty. Brodersen said he had not eaten since he was convicted about two weeks ago and said it was his way of repentance.
