Richard D. Stauffer, age 78, of Maryville, battled stormy seas for a decade and finally sailed into the safe port of Heaven where our Lord, the Harbormaster, welcomed him home on June 10, 2011.

This valiant sailor was the beloved husband of Suzette; proud father of Nicole, son-in-law, Adam, Blayde and Reed; brother of George and his wife Saran; it was his joy to be grandfather of Christine, Cassandra, Colt, Courtney, Ciara and Dane. Richard is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In his professional life, Richard was a well-known and respected petroleum engineer in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.

He was a Legion of Honor member and life member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Richard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Maryville, Tennessee. He will be missed as a man who loved his family and friends with passion, warmth and humor.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 429 Sandy Springs Road, Maryville, TN.
