Gale Rayetta Ashby, 66, of Kalama was born Aug. 20, 1946, and passed away Feb. 21, 2013, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.

She graduated from Kalama High School in 1964 and never stopped learning, achieving various certificates and licenses from a variety of colleges. Gale had a strong work ethic and a 37-year career in the trucking industry, the last 13 years with Mitchell Brothers, where she retired as a recruiter in 2011.

In June of 1964, she married William Biggs in Kalama. They had three children and later divorced. Gale married Carl Ashby in Toler, Tex., in May of 1984. He brought two children into the family.

Gale is survived by her husband, Carl; five children, Bridgett Jones, Barrett Biggs (Melisa), Jeanett Senter (Mitchell), Nelwyn Derrick and Robert Ashby; nine grandchildren, Bethony and Nicole Jones, Dacoda, Destin and Devan Biggs, Derik Hanson, Edward Senter, and Scott and HaeLee Derrick; her father, Albert Johnston; seven siblings, Albert Johnston Jr., Irvin Johnston, Gary Johnston (Jill), Anita Sparks, NaRinda Cooke (Dan), Sherry Dick (Morry) and Carolyn Hunter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gale was preceded in death by her mother Juanita Danzer in 2002; her stepfather Eugene Danzer in 1988; and her stepmother Barbara Johnston in 2000.

Gale was a member of the Pacific Northwest Irish Wolfhound Club and enjoyed entering her canine family members in dog shows. She was also a member of the Kelso Eagles and the Longview chapter of the Gold Wing Touring Association, the Smoking Mountain Riders. Gale enjoyed traveling, shoe shopping, good wine, craft projects and dressing in costumes for family events. She was imaginative, loyal, supportive, reliable, cheerful and loving.

A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory with Deacon John Ackerman officiating. A viewing is planned from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
