Born May 26, 1837, in what was then the Kingdom of Württemberg.

In the 1850s he came to New York where he worked for a while before he went to Darke County, Ohio.

Married March 29, 1860, to Christina Hatter in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio. They had 13 children.

The family farm was on the northwest corner of Bradford-Children's Home Road and Arcanum-Bears Mill Road in Adams Township, south of Stelvideo, Darke County, Ohio.

The family attended Wakefield Lutheran Church in Greenville Township north of Greenville, Darke County, Ohio.


He died February 8, 1919, at the home of his son, Gottfried "Fred" Durr at 143 Irvington Street, one block west of the county line in the village of Bradford, Darke County, Ohio.
